The Velmas

When YakMusic spoke to Mike Grosshandler, guitarist and singer of the The Velmas, he quickly put our minds at ease assuring us that the band were still alive & kicking but various side projects have meant they are just "less busy as of late".
The boys are talking about recording some new tunes in 2013, but nothing is definite as yet.

In the meantime, Mike has released a new solo album this year. It's titled "Blue Skies Black" and he says it is the culmination of over 3 years of work.
"I had the help of 6 great drummer friends of mine and I performed, recorded, and engineered nearly everything else on the record.  There is also a guest horn player on one song, and I was fortunate enough to have some guest vocals by the one and only Phil Taylor of the bands "Future Leaders of the World" and "Machina" on the song "Status Quo," Mike told YakMusic.

The lead single of the album, the title track, Blue Skies Black.

Mike is also lead guitarist in a new band called Above The Flood.
The band are about to release their debut EP (5 brand new original songs) in the next month or so so keep an eye out for that.
"We're more hard rock/modern rock, with influences like Seether, Chevelle, Alice in Chains, and Breaking Benjamin." Mike says.

Bruce and Fig, the drummer and bassist from The Velmas, have also been busy over the last few years. Bruce wrote and produced an album (which Mike mixed) for an up-and-coming young pop/country/rock artist named Beth Zaje. They also both perform in her live band.
